I love travelling! One of the things I love most about travelling is having new experiences and meeting new people. When I was back at university getting my second degree in Education, I was lamenting to one of my professors that I missed travelling. He was an ESL specialist and had shared many travel stories that I related to. And he said something to me that I will never forget. He said, "you can be a traveller wherever you are, even at home."
I thought that was a revelation. You can adopt the perspective of a traveller any time you want, by looking at things around you with new eyes. So my questions this week is, "What is ONE 'new' thing you could do this week to make you feel like a traveller?" You could try shopping at a new store, take a walk in a different part of town, try a new restaurant, go to a concert or play or a new art exhibition. You could go to a Meetup group that interests you and meet a new group of people. You could try a new form of entertainment, like Paint Nite or a try a new exercise class. You could even walk in your own neighbourhood and imagine you are seeing it through the eyes of someone from another country. You could have a lot of fun with this ONE thing question!
I have decided that what I am going to do this week is try a new dining experience at a restaurant called The Dark Table. It is a unique restaurant, in that you eat in the pitch dark and are served by a blind waiter or waitress. I read about The Dark Table in Vancouver some time ago and was very excited when I saw there was a Groupon offer to try The Dark Table in Calgary. I got it for a Christmas Present for my husband myself. I thought this would be a great week to finally give it a try. I will give you my review of the restaurant and the highlights of my experience on Friday.
I 'd love to know what you are going to do for your ONE thing this week! So please post in the comments below or on our Group Facebook Page. The more that people share their ideas, the more fun options we will all have to enjoy a new experience!
