One thing I miss from my days at university, is that feeling at the end of final exams. It was especially great at Christmas break. After having worked so hard all semester and the stress of studying for finals, it was so decadent to have 2 weeks of vacation. It felt like a well deserved privilege to have free time to read a book, watch TV, or meet a friend, without any guilt.
So my ONE Thing question this week is designed to capture that feeling of earned pleasure. My question is two-fold, "What is ONE hard job you could do this week and ONE reward you can give yourself when you complete it?" Try thinking of something that you really don't want to do or have been avoiding. It could be a cleaning task, a difficult phone call, or starting on a big project that feels daunting to begin. Choose something that will make you feel great when you have completed it, but that is still achievable. (Instead of taking on a whole project, maybe taking the first small step).
For me, I am going to do the one job that I hate doing every year. It is gathering and organizing all of our tax information. As the saying goes, "the only things that are certain in life are death and taxes." So it is a job that needs to be done. And I will be happy when I complete it. My reward is a bit of a cheat, because I had already planned it before I wrote this post. I am going out of town on a girls' trip to celebrate a joint milestone birthday. It will feel extra special knowing I completed my tax paperwork before indulging in a fun weekend with friends.
I would love to hear what you are planning for your hard job and your reward. As always, I invite you to share your ONE Thing or your thoughts or experiences in the comments below or in our Weekly ONE Thing Facebook Group. We can all learn so much from each other. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
