Staying in The Spirit of Summer

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

What is ONE Thing you can do to keep your summer spirit?

Last week's question was What is ONE Thing you could do this week to allow you to laugh at yourself? I had fun laughing at myself several times last week. It helped with little problems like not being able to find the trailhead for a hike my kids wanted to go on, or having to get a hint for every lock in a Locked Room I took my nieces and children too. Laughing at myself made it easy. It was good having that top of mind awareness this week of not to take things so seriously. I am going to adopt this as a regular practice. I hope you had fun laughing at yourself last week too.

This week's question is "What is ONE Thing you can do to keep your summer spirit?" My kids are both hockey players and this is the time of year that hockey camps start to prepare for evaluations at the end of the month. It feels crazy to be thinking of the hockey season in August and it sometimes robs our family of the joy of the end of summer. There are still two weeks before school starts so I want to make the most of the finals days of warm weather. I am going to do TWO Things this week to keep my summer spirit. One is to sit on my deck every day this week. It might be to write in my journal or read a book or have a cup of tea (iced or hot, depending on the weather). The second thing is to go on a hike (the one we couldn't find the trailhead for). I am going to stop myself from feeling like the summer is over when there is still about 1/4 of the summer months left.

Other ideas for keeping your summer spirit could include going swimming at a nearby lake or outdoor pool. It could be going on a picnic or meeting friends on a restaurant patio. It could be going for a bike ride or walk by the river. I hope you choose something fun for yourself to do to keep your focus on the beauty of summer that remains.

As always, I would love to hear from you on what you will do this week to keep your summer spirit. Please share what you are planning to do in the comments below, on Facebook or in our Weekly ONE Thing Facebook Group! We might get good ideas from each other.
